Getting Ready
Being ready to handle a tire change for your car comes down to preparation more than anything else. If you don’t have the right tools on hand, then you’ll be out of luck when it does come time to swap out a faulty tire for a spare. As far as what you’ll want to acquire for your tire changes, there are a few items that we recommend. These are a car jack, tire pressure gauge, lug wrench, and of course, a spare tire if your car doesn’t already come with one. You can get any of these from your local auto parts store, so you won’t have to go on an extensive search to find them. Once you’ve got them in your possession, it’s a good idea to place them inside your vehicle and keep them there, that way you don’t have to go looking for them when you need them.
How to Remove a Flat Tire
If you can't make it to our Service Department to get your flat tire changed, then you’ll want to find a safe location to pull over in Savannah to handle the matter yourself. Once you’ve parked and turned on your hazard lights, you can get to work by first using the lug wrench to unscrew the lug nuts for the flat tire. It’s best to only unscrew the lug nuts partially before using the car jack to lift your vehicle off the ground. You can then unscrew the lug nuts the rest of the way, which will give you the means to fully remove the flat tire and store it in a safe location.
How to Install a Spare Tire
After you’ve successfully removed the defective tire, you’re going to want to take your spare tire and follow the same procedure that you did to remove the flat tire, only in reverse. This means that you’ll want to place the spare tire in the same position as the old tire before inserting the lug nuts back into their original locations. You can then take your lug wrench and start tightening the lug nuts to roughly halfway before lowering the vehicle back to the ground and removing the car jack.
