2021 Lexus LC Review: A Luxury Coupe, Indeed.
Since its release in 2018, the Lexus LC model has continued to build momentum as an icon among the world’s luxury sports cars, while continuing to be the halo car of Lexus. The 2021 LC coupe maintains that momentum by introducing new features without sacrificing the model’s foundational fineness, creating palpable excitement among automobile critics and Lexus loyalists alike.
Making an appointment to test drive the 2021 Lexus LC will have you on edge with excitement, as well. Read our overview of the new luxury car below, and contact our Savannah Lexus dealership at (912) 231-0005 to begin building your own LC 500.
Same Face, Lighter Frame
The 2021 edition of the LC has a similarly attractive face – it looks like the previous model, but after a trim and shave – while allowing for some minor trim options.
New color choices include Cadmium Orange (debuted on the LC Convertible) and Nori Green Pearl (from the limited edition IS series of the 2020 LC). Additional changes to the look of the LC include a Dark Graphite on 20-inch wheel patterns. While you won’t be able to see it on the sleek body of the new LC, an overall weight reduction of 22 pounds represents a significant difference in performance.
Performance is the Focus
To maintain its upward momentum against stiff competition, Lexus placed its focus on upgrading 2021 LC performance with transmission and suspension changes.
Though the basic powertrain still includes a 471-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 mated to a 10-speed automatic (or a 354-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 and electric motor combo), transmission upgrades are an essential element of Lexus’s performance-focused redesign. Motor Trend notes that updates to shifting logic increase LC’s performance and throttle range by 50-70 percent, and hybrid models see improved control and acceleration due to transmission reconfiguration.
Active Cornering Assist, added to the 2021 LC, will help to improve its handling. A variety of suspension upgrades contribute to riding comfort, as well. Increasing the length of the stroke of the front shocks, while strengthening the rigidity of the rear anti-roll bars, is comfort-enhancing suspension improvement valued by Motor Authority critics.
Minor Interior Upgrades
Already ahead of the luxury competition from LC’s outset, interior upgrades on the 2021 model are minor. The most noticeable change is the inclusion of Android Auto to LC’s infotainment system as an alternative to Apple CarPlay. In addition, a couple interior color changes have been made. Replacing last year’s Rioja Red is a Flare Red leather option, and the Bespoke White leather option has seen the guillotine.
Lexus’ Commitment to Safety & Driver Support
Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Lexus Safety System Plus (LSS+) are standard features on the 2021 LC, demonstrating Lexus’s continued drive to provide safety and driver support to its customers.
The Enform Service Connect feature allows the vehicle to send maintenance and service alerts; the Enform Remote mobile app, which allows remote monitoring and system activation from a smartphone, smartwatch or Amazon Alexa, are part of Enform Safety Connect.
LSS+ features include Lane Departure Alert with Lane Keep Assist (LKA); Pre-Collision System (PCS), which includes Frontal Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Pedestrian Detection; All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC); and Intelligent High Beam.
Superior Comfort & Handling
The 2020 Lexus LC was already a good-looking car. With the most luxurious interior in the luxury sports car class, and its ability to provide riding comfort, good handling and decent performance, it’s not a surprise why it’s among the class leaders.
Now, with a new model here, there’s a new king. The 2021 model’s weight reduction, improved suspension and transmission upgrades are welcome performance additions that improve on an already substantial powertrain. Satisfied 2018 LC drivers coming off lease will enjoy the all-encompassing luxury that is the 2021 Lexus LC.
